Mama Natural Birth Course, Staying Active And Eating Dates Helped Isabel Achieve Her First Home Water Birth

  • Video Interview With Isabel

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I woke up around 4 am, feeling like I had an upset stomach. From there, I started to realize they were definitely contractions- but almost couldn't believe it because right away, they were 2-3 minutes apart with no build-up!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

The most challenging thing was of course, the pain of contractions, mine were intense and were 2-3 minutes apart for about 7 hours!
In addition, keeping myself in a calm mental state was challenging. I definitely was frustrated at times, and just tried to keep my mindset positive, but it was tough!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I am a dance instructor, so I stayed pretty active throughout most of my pregnancy. The Mama Natural Birth Course was a great blessing as well, and I did eat six dates a day towards the end too!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How I really didn't feel time passing, I was in labor for about 9 hours and I honestly could not have said what time it was at any time during it!

  • Trust yourself, trust God. We are perfectly designed to do this, and the more we put doubt and fear in our way, the more we create mental blocks that can manifest physically!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

I had a water birth - I was in the tub from when my midwife arrived until I gave birth. It was the only place I could comfortably be.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

It was surreal, I felt like I couldn't quite connect at first that this was my little human, the one that I had grown and carried for nine months, and here he was, ready to take on the world!

  • What did you name your baby, and why?

We chose Ezra because my husband and I both wanted a biblical name, and it was also one of the few boy names we could agree on!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

The biggest thing is to trust. Trust yourself, trust God. We are perfectly designed to do this, and the more we put doubt and fear in our way, the more we create mental blocks that can manifest physically!
