Bonnie's Birth Center Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I was induced four days past my due date because baby was measuring two weeks past gestational age.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Because I planned to have a VBAC I had to be continuously monitored which confined me to a bed.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I accepted that my plans may not work out and prepared emotionally for that time if it came that I would need a repeat cesarean.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How large the baby actually was, 11 lbs 1 oz! I had no idea he would be that big!

  • Incredible and emotional. He was huge! I didn't even have diabetes or hbp at all during pregnancy. I just had a giant healthy baby boy and I was so happy he was out of me!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Pitocin contractions are incredibly painful. Breathing through them calmly seemed impossible at times. I gave on and had an epidural after 7 hours of labor.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

After a long day of intense contractions and zero progress in dilation, I agreed to have another cesarean. My uterus was tired my baby was tired, we were all ready for it to be over.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Incredible and emotional. He was huge! I didn't even have diabetes or hbp at all during pregnancy. I just had a giant healthy baby boy and I was so happy he was out of me!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Good luck to you in that endeavor. I tried my best but things don't always turn out how we want. I am so sad that my human experience to birth naturally will never happen but eternally grateful for my two boys.
