Birth Stories

Her Lifestyle Choices Helped Kristin During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    2am

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

All labor and childbirths have their own challenges..I did not have any challenges, luckily, but feel it was due to my choice of a natural birth (both times) and having total control of my body.

  • Odin
  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

My lifestyle choices. I eat great food and drink so much water, as well as adequate sleep.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

The difference between my two childbirth experiences. Also, my water did not break until moments before giving birth this time. The nurse said it was bulging through my cervix like a water balloon. It did break on its own.

  • Trust in yourself and your body. It seems that the saying "mind over matter" really is true. You can do it!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Using the shower, controlling my breath (deep, long, slow release) with some moaning, and walking or swaying.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Backwards on the hospital bed, on knees, arms and head resting on the top of the bed (bed was positioned as if you were to sit in it)

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

The doctor handed him through my legs when I was kneeling and my cord was intact so it was a little difficult, but it felt just as if I've always known him.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Trust in yourself and your body. It seems that the saying "mind over matter" really is true. You can do it!
