Journaling, Praying and Meditating Helped Christina During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I wasn't completely sure until after I finished an acupuncture session and contractions were getting stronger and more frequent. I had to call my doula, she listened to me and confirmed that what she heard meant it was "go" time.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

My contractions, possibly thanks to the Red Raspberry Leaf Tea "Labor Day" brew, were so strong and in the last hour they happened consecutively. There wasn't much opportunity for rest.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Journaling, praying and meditating--especially about my fears from past traumas and the grief I was experiencing from having lost my father earlier in the year.

I can't say there were really any surprises...

  • Spiritual and mental health is equally as important as your physical health. Be sure to acknowledge and release any/all things to which you might be clinging or avoiding. This is crucial to help your body open up and birth your baby.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Pressure on my back from someone (midwife, husband, doula) as contractions were happening.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    On my knees.

I was on a natural high.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Spiritual and mental health is equally as important as your physical health. Be sure to acknowledge and release any/all things to which you might be clinging or avoiding. This is crucial to help your body open up and birth your baby.
