When did you realize you were really in labor?
My water had been slowly leaking for a full day. I called my doctor's office and he sent us straight to the hospital to have the fluid tested to make sure it was in fact amniotic fluid. I was then induced.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I had to kick off my labor with pitocin. I labored for 12 hours feeling every contraction. I breathed through each one with the help of my husband and close family friend who is a midwife. The support got me through.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Watched birthing videos months before.

What surprised you about your birth?
Everything! It was incredible. I was surprised how calm I stayed throughout the laboring and pushing.

What pain relief strategies worked best?
Back rubs from my husband through contractions, rocking on an exercise ball and eventually an epidural at the end.

What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
It was nothing but magic. I was in awe and was breathless. I had never felt so happy!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Don't be hard on yourself no matter which direction it turns.
