Remembering To Breathe and Not Worrying About Timing The Contractions Helped Chelsea During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    I was in the early labor stage for a couple weeks on and off. Finally we were given a date to be induced. When we got to the hospital the doctor immediately started me on pitocin and broke my water. That's when stuff started moving along.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    The most challenging thing was the actual labor part. Getting through the contractions one by one.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Remembering to breathe and not worry about timing the contractions once in the hospital. Just to relax if possible and rest when you can.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    I was surprised how fast my actual delivery was. After I went through the contractions and was finally dilated enough to deliver it only lasted 18 minutes and he was here!

  • It's all worth it in the end. When you get to hold your little one for the first time it all becomes so much more real.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Breathe through the contractions in your nose out your mouth. When it got to be too much I asked for an epidural.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Sitting slightly upright

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    I had so many emotions running through me. I was excited, nervous, tired, scared, in love...among so many more feelings.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    It's all worth it in the end. When you get to hold your little one for the first time it all becomes so much more real.
