When did you realize you were really in labor?
Actually the first contraction. It was different than all the Braxton Hicks I was having.
-
What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I was fully dilated and was pushing for 4 hrs after 24 hrs of being in labor doing a home birth. I was rushed to the ER for an emergency c-section. The hardest part was to try to stop pushing and breath through the last few contractions. I was told to stop if I could because the baby was stuck and my pelvis was too small. His heart rate was dropping. I had no other choice but to get the epidural and have the c-section. I was afraid of losing him or dying having him.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I stayed very educated and informed about it all. I ate healthy and stayed active.
-
What surprised you about your birth?
The fact that my little one couldn't come through vaginally, especially after having literally no issues during the whole pregnancy. I had morning sickness, maybe 2 days and some swelling and back pain.

Definitely worth every bit of the pain. I literally can't remember it. Like you hear it said, once the baby is born, you don't remember it.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
Breathing slowly through contractions and having my husband or midwife pressing on my back during those contractions as they amplified.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
Through a c-section.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
I was exhausted after 28 hours and was in the recovery room. But it was amazing. I had so much love for this little guy!

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
Definitely worth every bit of the pain. I literally can't remember it. Like you hear it said, once the baby is born, you don't remember it.
