When did you realize you were really in labor?
I never went into labor. My water broke around 9 am on June 5th after walking with my husband, then I proceeded to walk a half mile home in the rain. We called our midwife and doula to meet us at the house.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
I ended up transferring to the hospital because test results came back saying my bike acids were high and that since I was over the 24 hour mark with my water being broken I couldn't have my home birth. After arrival to the hospital we found out that my blood work was fine but since my water broke and I was gbs positive they wanted to keep me and induce labor. I had to receive pitocin and antibiotics. I was so saddened. The home birth I wanted was taken away from me.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
I wrote down beautiful and powerful affirmations and every night at bedtime I listened to my joyful pregnancy affirmation's by Hypnobabies.

What surprised you about your birth?
That my body gave up on me. My uterus was responding at all even with pitocin they gave me. I had 4 previous births. My first two were hospital births and my 2nd two were beautiful home births. This birth the baby was posterior and he had a nuchal arm. The pain was horrifying.

How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Because of the pitocin I was just thankful that it was over with. I was just so happy about that. I never got that blissful rush of oxytocin.
