When did you realize you were really in labor?
I was 10 days overdue and had been in prodromal labor for about 2 weeks. My midwife encouraged me to keep moving (walking was so painful) and swimming. I think I was finally mentally ready to have this baby! We went swimming at the community pool near our home and as I was laughing with my husband when a really strong contraction came. About two minutes later another came. I knew it was time.

What was the most challenging thing about going natural?
Being brave enough to trust myself and my body. I eventually surrendered to God and let my midwife be in control of the "what if" - I think 90% of childbirth is your mindset.

What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?
Reading Mama Natural's birth stories, Supernatural Childbirth and Birthing from Within. I also stayed away from negativity, my positive mindset was sacred and I had to protect it. I also ate 6 dates a day for the last 4 weeks of pregnancy and my labor was a total of 4 hours!

What surprised you about your birth?
How much better a contraction felt when I transitioned into the pushing phase.
-
Meeting my daughter was a feeling I'll never forget, I was relieved and overjoyed at the same time.
-
What pain relief strategies worked best?
I progressed so fast that I didn't have time to relieve pain.
-
What position did you end up delivering in?
On my back.
-
How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?
Meeting my daughter was a feeling I'll never forget, I was relieved and overjoyed at the same time.

What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
You can do it!! You were made for this. :)
