Having a Doula Helped Jennifer During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

Contractions started at 10:30 pm and around 11:30 pm I was convinced it was happening.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Since it was my second child I remembered the intense contractions, specifically around transition and was not looking forward to intense pain again. Most challenging thing about this birth was the anticipation.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Reading and preparing on natural birth, what my body does during labor/birth and yoga. Having a doula was amazing because she helped both me and my husband through 2 emotional births. Being prepared and knowing how I wanted my labor/ birth as well as having my everyone (husband, doula, doctor) supporting me made me feel comfortable and enpowered

  • What surprised you about your birth?

My entire labor was only 4 1/2 hours start to finish and I was in active labor for less than 2 hours. When we got to the hospital, there was no time for an IV or any medical intervention, my water broke and my baby was ready to come. I couldn't have timed it any better.
