Having The Right Support System Helped Tiffy During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    I woke up at 345am and had to go to the restroom. After going back to bed 10 min later i noticed the urge not stopping and getting worse. I had to sit up through a contraction and knew it was time to start timing them.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    I am a planner so for me, not knowing how long it would actually take before she was born is nerve wrecking.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    Having the right support system in place for me. I could not have had the amazing birth I did, without the right person(people) there with me.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    My baby was born so quickly and born en caul (in her water sac)!

  • Prepare yourself mentally for a longer labor and treat it as though you are about to run a marathon. Then, embrace each contraction the best you can and it will be over before you know it
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Bouncing on my birth ball, and icey hot on the site that was most affected during contractions. Also counter pressure applications by my doula.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Squatting in my bathtub

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    I was in shock and awe and totally elated!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    Prepare yourself mentally for a longer labor and treat it as though you are about to run a marathon. Then, embrace each contraction the best you can and it will be over before you know it
