How Yuliya Achieved a Natural Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

    I was put on IV by the doctor before I really felt labor. they had to break my water too. And after that I really started to feel the labor.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

    Going against the doctor's and hospital routine was the most challenging. They tried to be supportive but it still was out of the ordinary.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

    The most important thing was to be mentaly prepared. I had my husband and my mom supporting me during labor. I explained to them ahead of time why it's important for me to have natural child birth, and they were on board. I also asked them not to let me ask for drugs during labor in case I change my mind, and that also helped.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

    My birth was surprisingly short. After I started having real labor my first baby was out in a few pushes. And as soon as she came out I said that it wasn't hard and I could have another one.

    Breathing and praying.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    On my back. Standard delivery position.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    Overwhelming. There are no words to describe it.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

    The pain is overrated.
