Listening to Positive Birth Affirmations Helped Nicole During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I knew I was in labor when my husband read the signs and refused to go into work. Good thing!

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

Even though it was my fourth, transition is always so hard because the doubt creeps in and you wish it was over. Plus, nobody was home when I was in transition because my midwife was on the way and my husband was at the grocery store!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I listened to positive birth affirmations and a calming birthing script. It really helped!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I was surprised at how short it was. My midwife had only been there 50 minutes before baby girl was born. I was also surprised at how present and relaxed I was in between pushes. It wasn't easy, but it felt so calm instead of crazy and intense.

  • You can definitely do it! Take control of your own birth and decide how you want it to go. Then practice calming down and find helpful positive affirmations that you can repeat in labor.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

My hypnobirting calming script and the positive birth affirmations.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my back in bed. I tried moving in the middle of pushing, but that was a mistake!

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    It was invigorating and relieving!

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You can definitely do it! Take control of your own birth and decide how you want it to go. Then practice calming down and find helpful positive affirmations that you can repeat in labor.
