Lots of Research and Talking to Providers to Plan for a Breech Birth Helped Bridget During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

My water broke and after about an hour contractions started. I'd had prodromal labor in the evenings leading up to it. Due to her being breech we went in shortly after my water broke.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

We didn't this time. She's my 8th child. Most of the others were drug free, including water births at home, but we had a vaginal breech birth this time and changed our plans.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Lots of research and talking to providers to plan for a breech birth. Vaginal isn't always best /safest for baby so we had a lot of discussion to be sure it was best in our situation.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

Everyone was super encouraging.. and it's strange to push out a breech baby vs cephalic!

  • Practice relaxation and gave great support. I've been a CPM for years and know it's about those things more than any particular childbirth method.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Incredible staff.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

Semi reclined.. allowed for great use of gravity and felt supported to me.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

    A relief.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

Practice relaxation and gave great support. I've been a CPM for years and know it's about those things more than any particular childbirth method.
