Birth Stories

Reading a Lot of Birth Stories and Watching Several Home Birth Videos Helped Micyla During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

My water broke at 1130am while Black Friday shopping. We continued to shop and then went to lunch. Contractions didn't really start until around midnight that night.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I had been pushing for several minutes only to find out I was only 8cm so I had to stop pushing diring contractions even though my body wanted to push. Fighting my body while in intense pain was the worst pain I've ever experienced.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

I read a lot of birth stories and watched several home birth videos. I was also raised by a midwife (my mom) so I always knew I wanted an unmedicated homebirth.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

I was shocked when our midwife told me I pushed for 56min. I felt like I only pushed for about 15-30min.

  • You are so much stronger than you think. Towards the end is the worst, but just keep telling yourself you can do this, you are so strong!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Screaming lol

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my back with my husband kind of behind me, my mom holding one hand, my sister holding one leg and our midwife holding my other leg.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Shocking. And we didn't know what we were having and it was about a minute before we knew. They put her on my chest and covered her so my husband and I got to see first.

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?

You are so much stronger than you think. Towards the end is the worst, but just keep telling yourself you can do this, you are so strong!
