Surrendering to Each Contraction and to Jesus Helped Sarah During Her Home Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

About a hour before she was born. I was in denial until I had asked my husband to set up the birthing pool and once I got in and the contractions really started to get closer and more intense, I finally accepted that we would be meeting our baby very soon.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

I wouldn't exactly explain it as challenging but what I had to work on most was surrendering. I had to surrender to each contraction and surrender to my Lord Jesus. I found that once I did, the strength and peace that consumed me was unexplainable.

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

Researching and educating myself about birth and what our bodies were made to do. I also worked and practiced breathing techniques and that was very helpful for labor and delivery of baby.

  • What surprised you about your birth?

How fast it all went. I was only in active labor for 2-3 hours. I had only pushed 3 times and she easily came out.

  • I had to surrender to each contraction and surrender to my Lord Jesus. I found that once I did, the strength and peace that consumed me was unexplainable.
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

    Prayer. ;)
As well as being in water. I had some lower back labor pains and being in water was very helpful. Breathing techniques as well.

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

On my knees leaned over the pool wall.

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Exhilarating. There are no words to describe the feeling of holding and meeting your baby face to face for the first time.
