Having an Amazing Birth Team Helped Jenny During Her Hospital Birth

  • When did you realize you were really in labor?

I didn't get the chance to go into labor on my own this time. I had to be induced due to high blood pressure and very low platelet count.

  • What was the most challenging thing about going natural?

This time was the fact I was induced with pitocin. The doctor broke my water and I had my sweet baby 1.5 hours later. Contractions were much more intense this time then with my daughter. At one point I was begging for the epidural but my hubby totally supported me and tried to talk me out of it..the anesthesiologist was getting ready to do it and I said nope never mind he is coming right now!!! I knew that feeling so well from my daughter so I started pushing and almost got his entire head out in one push with no doctor there.... a random doctor came in just in time to catch my sweet boy!!! I was sooo happy I went natural again there is nothing like it!!!

  • What was the most helpful thing you did to prepare for childbirth?

We did Bradley birth class with my daughter so I reviewed all my information for my sons birth. Also having an amazing birth team in my hubby and my sisters is priceless!!! Being able to experience my kids birth with them will be something I never forget!!!

  • What surprised you about your birth?

The pitocin!!! That stuff is the devil!! Once I was to the pushing part everything just came flooding back and I felt so empowered as a women!!

  • Take a class!!!! It's the biggest athletic thing you can ever do and you have to train for it as such!!! Listen to your body!!! Know your rights and what you want!!
  • What pain relief strategies worked best?

Counter pressure on my hips was the only thing that felt good!!! I also was on my knees leaning over the top of the bed that helped because I had to be on the monitor

  • What position did you end up delivering in?

    Supine

  • How did it feel to hold your baby for the first time?

Amazing!!! After losing twin boys at 22 weeks because of my incompetent cervix, holding my full term healthy little boy was such a healing process.... even though I had his big sister it was different with him since he is named after his big brothers

  • What advice can you give to other mamas who want to go natural?
