My husband and I were going through list after list and hours later its 2 am and he says what about Barrett…ya know Barrett Jackson auto show and Barrett 50 cal? I looked up the meaning and it meant Bear Strong and I fell in love with it. He was pur rainbow baby and took Bear strength to be conceived so it fit perfect.

It was the only name we could agree upon. We liked how it was unique, but not weird, had good nickname potential, and is relatively easy to spell and pronounce.

We are finding that you really have to annunciate when introducing him, otherwise people think it’s “Baron“. Overall though, I love his name. We call him Bear and Barry.

My husband wanted to name our son Bear and I vetoed that immediately. We kept throwing around other names but my husband suggested Barrett and could call him Bear as a nickname. He ended up turning down all my name suggestions and we both agreed on only one name- Barrett. I was ok with Bear being the nickname as long as nobody ever called him Barry! Now it’s perfect for my son and I’m so in love with the name.

We love that Barrett means strength of a Bear and is German because our surname is (Dutch but) German sounding. We liked that there were no real nicknames (or so we thought) but Bear is a pet name at home. I also like that it is a less common name.
