  1. My husband and I decided that since this would be our last child, we wanted to have a surprise gender reveal at delivery. To us it made more sense to pick as surname as opposed to a gender neutral name as none of those really connected with us. And, didn’t want to fall in love with a gendered name and end up not being able to use it.

Lincoln started off as a playful joke name/stand-in name at the beginning of our relationship, and during our first pregnancy. We actually almost used it for our oldest, but ultimately chose a gendered name since we knew what we were expecting. But, once we got pregnant and decided to keep the gender a surprise and that we’d only have the 2, we just said “heck, let’s do it”. We did keep our baby name private, as we wanted it to equally surprising as the gender to friends and family.

The name fell more and more into place after discovering the due date and induction date as well as settling on a middle name. My induction date was supposed to be 4/14 (the date of President Lincoln’s assassination). I ended up having to reschedule but actually went into labor the following morning and delivered the next day on the 16, the actually due date (Lincoln was our 16th president). I’m a proponent of the syllable theory for names and we picked a 3 syllable middle name that I found to fit the birth month really well.

Here it is, my big reveal. On 4/16/2026 I delivered by emergency c-section a 9 lbs 11 oz. baby girl named Lincoln Ursula Park. Lincoln Park. Ursula means “little she-bear”, and bears typically come out of hibernation between march-May. Lincoln is also a “nature” name, meaning like settlement by a lake/pool. This compliments our last name and our oldest child Flora (May, 2024).

The delivery didn’t go as planned, a vaginal delivery using only pitocin, nitrous and a birthing comb like with my first. But, the c-section was the correct decision to safely delivering my youngest. If it all were to go the same and I could only change one thing, it would be to start the c-section sooner. Maybe then she wouldn’t be in the NICU, even though she is developing as expected and should be discharged late this week.
