Share Your Thoughts 2 Comments Lakee' Steed Aug 30 at 12:47 pm I chose Kamau because I wanted my baby to have an African name just like his brother. In the process, although I wanted a L name but couldn’t find one so I had to find a K name. My boyfriend and 1st son name start with a J. So I tried to find 1 with a L so I found 1 with a K. I love the name Kamau because where I live which is North Carolina this name is very unique & different. The name Kamau means silent warrior. Reply Lorraine Oct 25 at 12:58 pm Thanks for sharing the reason you chose Kamau as a name for your son. I chose it as a middle name for my son wanting him to have an African name. However, fearing as a first name, he might be denied future opportunities in America and abroad. We found Kamau in an international book of names included in my prenatal gift package welcoming us to an HMO’s practice in Chicago. There were several my husband and I set aside not knowing which to choose until his intrauterine behavior made Kamau the obvious choice. You see, unlike his sister before him, he barely moved throughout the pregnancy. But when he did, it was forceful! We called him our “Quiet Warrior” realizing no other name would be as appropriate. Warier indeed… when I went into labor with him, the fetal heart tracing was horrible. So bad that I worried the staff was considering an operative delivery. Fortunately, he delivered vaginally and the staff was surprised he wasn’t a stillbirth given the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck 5 times! We were told that was the longest cord on record. Kamau’s face was swollen, red, but he survived the war inside virtually unscathed. Thank God for our “quiet warrior” who exhibits these characteristics to this day as a man.
