  1. We chose this name because we wanted a Bible name that started with a letter other than J that ended in -iah. Both of our other children are -iahs and have Hebrew names. We settled on Obadiah as it fell after “M”, was not completely challenging to say or spell, has a good meaning “servant of the Lord”, and our children liked it as well as we did.

  2. My husband and I always appreciated bible names not just for the uniqueness but for their special meanings. We wanted a name that we didn’t know anyone with (we splurged on the middle names, being both of our grandfather’s). Obadiah was special. It wasn’t a name that people could make jokes about. It was out of the ordinary and we chose it for our first born. It means “servant of YHWH (God)”. Obadiah’s story is inspirational as he was a prophet in the Bible who helped God’s prophets escape from King Ahab. It’s more than just a name. I believe we did our best to give our son a reason to start in living a fulfilling life for God, others and himself. Being a servant, but being bold and courageous at the same time.
