  1. It comes from the name Rayland, it was one of the few that my husband and I could agree on. I wanted something unique and I hadn’t heard of it before and liked the sound of it. I am not really interested in it being shortened to Ray but it’s decent as far as nicknames go. My husband liked it from the book and tv series Justified by Elmore Leonard.

    • It is not shortened from Rayland. It is a combination of Raymond and Harlan (a city and county in Kentucky). Must not have paid attention to either the book or the series.

  2. We chose the name Raylan after watching the tv series “Justified”. My husband is a cowboy and in law enforcement and the main character, named Raylan, has that same vibe. We dislike the fact that some people pronounce it “Rae-Lynn” which is definitely a girl’s name. It wasn’t really a name until a decade ago so people are still getting used to hearing it I guess.

    • Aaaaahhhhhhadddddddooooooooooiiiiiiiiiiiii
