  1. I have no idea why they claim it to be an armenian name tbh. The water fairy is much clearly of Turkic origin and is connected to the name “Elire/Elere”. “alar” in some siberian Turkic languages even means “woods” or “grove”, which could point to a lake in the woods where the water fairy was found mythologically.

?n Kazakh Turkic there exist the name “Elerke”, which may be derived from “Elere/Alara” and it means “favourite territory/person”, which could be a nod to the water fairys domain as she was a benevolent spirit helping people to love.

    • Agreed! This is an indisputable Turkish name because ot (1) its obvious ties to Turkic mythology and (2) the fact that there are likely more people named Alara in Turkey than the entire population of Armenia, including my own daughter!

  2. My husband and I were playing around with names WAY before we even found out we were pregnant.
My husband found Elara- which is one of Jupiter’s moons. Well, we already had a son named Alexander and I knew if I had a girl I wanted an “A” name to match his. So, we switched the E in Elara to an A, Alara.
    Pronounced like ALARm clock- Ah-LAR-Ah.
She gets a lot of Ah-LER-ah’s but we’re okay correcting. We’ve never seen this name before and are excited that she’ll have a “one of a kind” moniker, plus I thought it was sweet that her Daddy had it all picked out before she was ever his little girl!
Her full name is Alara Mae Lynn and I’ve resorted to calling her Alara Mae.

    • My daughter is also Alara, me an my partner was trying to find a name for our first born! I suggested Lara an he suggested putting an A at the beginning it grew on me during pregnancy an as I had never heard it I though we had made it up! Later to find there are a few around, however still unusual but I love the name more the older she gets! She’s my Alara Faye xx
