Share Your Thoughts 8 Comments Charity May 4 at 12:39 pm We had twins (boy/girl) and needed a girl name to go with our boy name Camden. The first time we heard the name was when we met our friends niece named Calliope, or Calli for short. We both really liked it then and when we found out we were having twins, we agreed on the names Camden and Calliope. And they both have short names – Cam & Calli. Reply Mikaela Mar 25 at 8:41 am We found her name as a background character on an awful TV show, my husband and I looked at each other “what do you think about that name?”, “I love it!”, and it stuck! We looked up the meaning and it means beautiful voice, my husband and I are musicians and knew my husband’s grandma who passed away the precious January would’ve sent us a singer just like her. Calliope is a Greek muse who inspired epic poems in Greek mythology. Calliope James was stillborn on her great grandma’s 80th birthday, Dec 14th, 2022. Even though she’s not with us physically she inspires our lives everyday, just as her name once did before her. Reply Briana Jan 6 at 12:32 pm We chose calliope after 3 miscarriages and a failed adoption. It means beautiful voiced, she was a Greek goddess of the arts. Her dad makes music, and that cry when she came our was truly the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. Reply Briana Dec 29 at 5:31 am The meaning and rare times its been used Reply Rainbow Oswalt Dec 29 at 4:54 pm I named my youngest daughter, born in 2014, Calliope. She’s a preemie, and I knew right away she loved music and arts. I didn’t have a name for her when she was born but it didn’t take long for her spirit and personality to shine through in that NICU. She was meant to be a Calliope. My husband and I call her Calliope but most people call her Calli. She wears the name very well. Reply Calliope Dec 27 at 9:54 am My name is actually Calliope. My dad was planning on naming me either, Zozo, Loulou, or Zelda. But my mom, fortunately, declined all of those. Reply Maren Oct 28 at 5:56 am I thought it was pretty & I like that it is not a common name. Reply Ces Aug 18 at 2:30 am We are a family of “C” names: I’m Cecilia, my husband is Christopher, and our son is Calloway. After confirming that I was pregnant with a girl, I asked people for recommendations of girl. “C” names. A co-worker sent me A text suggesting “Calliope” from a character on Grey’s Anatomy ( which I’ve heard of but never watched) who’s called “Callie” on the show but her character’s full name is Calliope. I thought it looked close to the name “Penelope” and immediately liked it. The only problem was I/we didn’t know how to pronounce it ( we were pronouncing it ‘Kali-ope’) thanks to google, we got it right;) ( pronounced Kah-ly-oh-pee).
