  1. Well short for Lenore, my family has always called me Lenny.. I always thought of it as an old lady’s name

  2. My name is Lenore. I am 55 and have almost always disliked my name. My grandmother nick named me “Lee-Lee” (later shortened to “Lee“) because she felt that the name “Lenore” was “too old” sounding, as did I. I love my nickname “Lee” because it’s a cute, fun, short name! But in recent years I have warmed up to my given name “Lenore” especially after learning it’s origin and meaning…Greek Origin meaning: light, a bright and positive presence, compassion, sunray, shining light! Alternately “Lee” is of English origin meaning; a clearing or meadow. In the Bible Lee means a defensive covering, shelter, protection, defended from the wind. Although I still like the sound of a short, snappy “Lee” my birthname has significantly more meaning to me now that I have become a Born Again Christian and a new creature in Christ Jesus! It’s as though God was protecting me as a “Lee” knowing that someday I would grow into the name He had given me as I was being knit in my mothers womb. For it is actually He who inspires our parents to give us our names which all have meaning related to our being.

  3. Our eldest is named Lenore. I left the name picking entirely up to my husband who was completing his air force basic training and tech school during my pregnancy. He chose very well.

    • My name is Lenore. I’m 65, and always wished I had a mainstream name for my age like Lisa or Lorraine. I felt my name was (and still is, lol), too old for me. How old is your daughter, and what does the name Lenore sound like to you? I’d love to hear why you love it!

      • Lenore, I’m naming my daughter Lenore. I am 38 and it’s a name that’s been dear to me since I was a teenager. It was the name of my favorite baby-sitter. And I fell in love with Edgar Allen Poe when I was a teenager. Edgar’s ‘The Raven’ states:
From my books surcease of sorrow–sorrow for the lost Lenore–
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore–
        Nameless here for evermore.
I could not think of a better name for my soon-to-be daughter. Named after someone dear and important to me. An angelic name. A name that means light, compassion, hope. She will be the beacon of my life. I hope she will be able to appreciate the thought and love I’ve put into naming her.
