The name Maisie is a Scottish diminutive of Margaret, which means “pearl.” The name Margaret has a long and fascinating history, but for the sake of brevity, we’ll focus on how it became Maisie. Popularity of the Name Maisie

The name Maisie became popular in Scotland in the late 19th century and early 20th century, but it never quite caught on in the rest of the English-speaking world. It remained a relatively uncommon name until recently, when it began to see a resurgence in popularity. It could be due to the fact that it’s a vintage name with a modern twist, or maybe it’s because people are just starting to realize how darn cute it is.

Maisie Williams, the actress who played Arya Stark on the HBO series Game of Thrones, might have something to do with it. Her portrayal of the fierce, determined young woman helped to make the name Maisie feel more modern and relevant.
