Share Your Thoughts 1 Comment Holly Jul 14 at 9:31 am My husband really wanted an M name as M names are a thing on his side of the family. I didn’t really care for the traditional names since I knew someone or a dog named almost every M name you can imagine! Mayla happened to just pop into my head one day as I was wracking my brain…I thought, It’s not common, it’s not hard to pronounce or spell, it’s perfect! I loved that it’s associated with the name Maria because that is my close friends name and it (similar to Maria) means motherly, nurturing, caretaker. Both Maria and I are senior caretakers so that is significant to me and I sure hope Mayla will be very nurturing ?. Well what really solidified my decision was that one of my favorite bands (Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros) has a song named Mayla! Totally forgot about that until I started looking info about the name up. It is such a beautiful song and we now hum it to her every night as she falls asleep. My husband and I absolutely love her name- Mayla Joy (May May or MJ). The only downfall is that I can’t say we’ve ever received a whole lot of reassurance on the name. People mostly respond with “oh that’s different, where did you come up with that”, never “how pretty” or “that’s cute”. I’m the type that would go out of my way to compliment someone’s name choice but I guess I’m just different that way. I always walk away feeling awkward after telling someone her name even though we’re proud of it and think it’s beautiful and suits her well. ????
