Share Your Thoughts 1 Comment Erica Jan 2 at 11:31 am I loved this name when I first heard it when Merrick Garland was nominated for the Supreme Court under President Obama. However, joke was on me, because it was the wrong name! I thought they had been saying “Merit” Garland. After that, I realized I just loved the name Merit and started seeing the word everywhere. A new coffee shop, a brand of makeup, the street name of the hotel I stay in on business travel. It felt meant to be. I hope she thinks of her name, which means “particularly good or worthy,” to mean that she is all of that to me, but it also inspires her to be of good character, to do the right thing, and to always try hard. I believe we’re on this earth to do good things toward others, animals, and the planet, and I hope I can pass those values on to my Merit.
