  1. Nola is actually of Irish origin and is originally a shortened version of Fionnula or Fionola. It means “White shoulder” or “Fair shoulder.”

  2. I love her name because I love New Orleans.

  3. Nola is names after her wonderful great grandmother. It’s a family name and so perfect because she was born on what would have been her great grandmother’s 75th wedding anniversary!

  4. Nola was the name of a very important woman in my husband’s life. While she had no children of her own, she embraced his family and became a “Grandmother” to him as a child. We chose the name to honor him. It is also a town in Italy (our honeymoon destination).
We love that it is short, easy to spell, and classic. Sometimes people do ask us if we named her Nola to honor New Orleans (NOLA) so that is something to consider. Sometimes people do mistake it for Nora or Nolan, but that is not very often.
We think it is a great name that follows the trend of “older” names.
