  1. My name is Maia and it is pronounced
    ( My-ee-ah)
My mother told me she found it in a boom of African names… the meaning… lovely
West Africa… I met several other women with the same name and they told me that they were told their name meant LOVELY… from west African Origins…

  2. I liked the sound of the name, the connotations to her birth month of May and of course the amazing Maya Angelou. It was high on my list and then her big sister came up with the name of her own accord too and I decided to go for it

    • Maia is pretty she’s pretty Maya and Maia is two different names

  3. I selected the name Maia because i thought it went well with my other daughters name, Indie. I liked the spelling, I thought it is really pretty. I also didn’t want a name that is really common.

    • Oh how funny! I have an Indie and a Maia. I have such name regret with a Maia though as every seems to pronounce it wrong and it annoys me so much! We get Mia and May-er! Keep thinking about changing the spelling to Maya but so unsure xx

  4. We chose Maia because our last name is one of the most common in the country, so we wanted a first name that was different but not so totally out there. I iike that down the road she probably won’t have another Maia (or Maya) in her class/grade.
