Name Meaning Origin Popularity Other Gender King King English Share Your Thoughts 3 Comments Xiomara Torres Dec 2 at 3:01 pm My mother named me Xiomara because she “…knew [she] had to as soon as [she] heard it.” Xiomara is a commonly Hispanic/Spanish name with a Mayan origin meaning ‘princess warrior ready for battle’. Growing up I always thought the meaning of my name was beautiful, but resented it as it was so hard for most everyone I met to pronounce. Only fluent Spanish speakers with some exceptions have been able to pronounce my name correctly. This might not be a huge deal for some, but it mattered to me. Although I got used to it, and I’m sure your baby will too, I dreamt of having a common name so it didn’t attract so much attention. I’m Chicana, but you wouldn’t know it by just looking at me. I’m g?era, meaning I am of Mexican descent and active in my culture, but have light skin/don’t look the part. Today I am 12 going on 13, and I’m proud of my name. This name is a lot more common than I thought, and although this might bother your baby at first, they will learn to love their name just as much as I have. It will either connect them with their culture or be an interesting conversation starter, you choose. Speaking of choosing, you can choose how the ‘x’ in the name is pronounced! I pronounce it with an English “s” sound, but it can be pronounced with the “ch”, “sh” and “csh” sounds, making the name more unique. (If I could choose, I would pronounce it with the “csh”, as this is the original pronunciation of my name). In my opinion, Xiomara is a strong, “feminine” (although if you remove that last ‘a’ it becomes “masculine”), and diverse name that will empower your loved one. Reply Nydia Dec 13 at 9:16 am Xiomara is my 2 nd daughter and her father named her. Her name means battle ready, the most beautiful star of the universe. Reply hope Apr 13 at 5:13 pm When I was choosing a name, I wanted it to be a Spanish name because of my culture. I also wanted a name that meant strength or to have courage. Xiomara means battle ready, warrior in Spanish. I love this name because it is not a traditional Spanish name that you hear often.
