  1. It’s a strong name of a leader and reminds us of the Lord!

  2. We chose this name because of the biblical theme. We really feel like it’s a great name for our son to live up to, and still be able to get a job.

  3. I chose the name Shepherd because I love the verses in the Bible that talk about Jesus as the Gentle Shepherd. They meant a lot to me during my pregnancy when some difficult circumstances came up.

  4. My husband & I love the name Shepherd for a few reasons, we had some layers that we sifted our names through to chose & this one stuck! First we wanted something with meaning, we believe we’re raising our babies to lead & make a difference (aka to herd the sheep of the world). Second we wanted something a little different but not weird, we love that old school & rustic vibe that it gives & according to ssa.gov it ranked past #500 in 2021. But if we’re being completely honest, even with all these things, I wasn’t a huge fan of how it sounded because of the ‘er’ sound at the end. I ended up falling in love with ‘Shep’ & eventually his full name really stuck with me.

  5. It was a sweet, wholesome sounding name that we kept coming back to. Also love that it can be shortened to a nick-name “Shep

  6. We have always thought Shepherd would be a beautiful name for a boy. For us it invokes spiritual themes (Psalm 23, etc.) and evokes peaceful imagery. Now that we’ve shared his name with others I’m realizing how many ways people may try to misspell his name (we prefer Shepherd, but others have already spelled it Shepard, Shephard, Sheppard). But I think we can be ok with just correcting the spelling the rest of his life (and we hope he can be ok with it too! Ha!)

  7. My third son is named Shepherd Zion.
I loved this powerful name because it means “To guide and direct to the city on a hill.”
    ooooo
(((To guide and direct others to Jesus.)))

  8. We chose the name Shepherd because our son was the first born and we pray he grows up to be a leader to his younger siblings. It is not super common, but still easy to pronounce. We love to call him “Shep” as a cute nickname.

  9. “And the Lord will give you shepherds after his own heart, leading you in knowledge and understanding” Jeremiah 3:15

  10. We pray he will be a shepherd of men. Heeding and guided others towards J

  11. I like names that have to do with my Savior, and Jesus was the Good Shepherd. I love it!?
