  1. We chose this name as my husband always knew he wanted to name his daughter Malu if he ever became a dad to a girl. Thankfully I loved the name.

Usually Malu is a short version of Maria Louisa (no hyphen) and we knew that people would assume her calling name is Maria if we named her that. In our home countries it is very common for girls to have the name Maria preceding their actual calling name – in this case Louisa and for the name to be shortened to Malu. We didn’t want her to constantly have to explain that her name is not actually Maria, but Malu or Louisa, so we opted to just name her Malu.

We are really happy that we maintain a small link to our heritage when we named her, but at the same time adjusting her name to the naming conventions of where she grows up (the Netherlands, Europe)
