Connor Name Meaning

Connor is an Irish name fit for an adorable little boy. Meaning “dog lover,” it has a sweet side that’s hard not to love. The name has a warmth and heart to it that extends well beyond his meaning.

Connor is naturally playful and fun, conjuring up images of a little one always on the go. He’s one for adventure, the first to climb to the top of the jungle gym and always ready to soar down the highest slide on the playground. He has no fear and loves to push limits, whether he’s skating fast on rollerblades or practicing wheelies on his bike.

Connor is just as versatile as his fellow Irish friends Ryan and Sean, perhaps on the path of becoming the newest addition to the boy-next-door club. While he’s young at heart, he can age with grace, perfectly fine on a grown man. His youth isn’t to be confused with a cutesy factor, as he has a strong, handsome side that matures well.

A recognizable name that doesn’t have many similar sounding friends, Connor is rarely misheard. He does have a few spellings to contend with including his original form Conor and variants like Conner and Konnor. This shouldn’t dissuade parents from using the name, however, as he’s a familiar friend that isn’t overused.

  4. It sounded like a strong baby boy name to us. We have a friend named Conner and one day we said huh, that’s a really nice baby boy name. It was between Connor and one other name when little man was born, but we thought he looked more like a Connor. 🙂

  5. We fell in love with the name Connor because we felt it flowed well with his middle name (Alan). Also, we don’t know anyone named Connor and felt that it isn’t “popular” at the moment.

  6. I’ve always loved the name, but when hubby heard it meant “Lover of Wolves,” he was sold.

  7. I dreamt his name was Connor just before he was born.

  8. My husbands mother, Connie, died of cancer when my husband was a young boy. Connor was a way to honor her memory ?

It goes with an Irish theme in our family of names.

  10. I always like the name Connor.

  11. My son’s name came to me in a dream before I was even pregnant. And I knew when I got pregnant I was having a boy. So I knew what I would be naming him.

  12. My husband came up with the name. We were just laying in bed thinking about names and he really liked that one. We love that no one we know has the name Connor and it can’t be rhymed with any mean nicknames for when he starts school.

  13. We named him Connor after the meaning behind it “Lover of hounds”. It’s totally fitting as he loves dogs, it also is the name of my favorite character from the movie Boondock Saints.

  14. We loved that it means strong-willed. We want to raise strong, indepedent resilient children!

It also happened to be the same name as a famous mixed martial artist my husband loves (Conor McGregor), but I said we had the change the spelling to double N so it was more a generic name rather than Irish.
