Eva Name Meaning

A sassy variant of Eve, Eva is a name with a whole lot of spunk. She’s bright, bubbly, and bursting with energy, not that anyone is surprised with her meaning of “life.”

Eva is a classic name, but she avoids feeling dusty or overused. She manages to wiggle her way into modern territory, her sound fitting in well with the burst of V sounds on the scene. Names like Evelyn, Olivia, and Avery are all dotting the top of the charts, but little Eva is an underrated sweetie that feels fresh and vibrant.

Eva is a little one that knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. She’s the first to voice her opinion at the table and loves putting her natural charisma to use. Not at all bashful, she takes to the spotlight without batting an eye and keeps all around her entertained with her character.

Despite her length, little Eva does have nickname potential, with Evie and Eve hanging in her corner. She’s also short enough to stand on her own, free to avoid a cutesy nickname should you choose. If using the Ay-vah pronunciation, you should be completely clear of any unwanted nicknames, though pronunciation issues may rear their head from time to time.

  1. my first born

  2. I swear my babys name themselves! All my kids names, especially with Eva, I was never crazy about… it just felt right. Also it was the only name that kept making the list.

  3. Family name on my partners side
She has her great great great nans name
Pretty easy name! Think it’s cute and love carrying on names or traditions her middle names also have lots of meanings too from mine and my partners side and carrying names through generations is something I love 🙂

  4. I absolutely love this name and her nickname Evie. I did not realize how many pronunciations of Eva there are so I am explaining her name to some.

  5. Her name is Eva Hope, which means, “living hope.” After going through 2 miscarriages and being promised from God that I would have another biological child, this is the name He gave to her while I struggled to have hope that she would make it to the end of my pregnancy.

  6. When we found out we were pregnant we picked out a girl name and a boy name. My husband really wanted s bible name. As we started looking I suggest Eva because it has the same meaning as Eve and it also my grandmothers name. I love this name for our little girl. It has been perfect. It’s nice that it’s not overused and super popular.

  7. My husband and I didn’t know our baby’s gender until the birth date. We also couldn’t come to an agreement on girl names so we went into labor without a girls name selected and hoped the name would come to us when we met our little one. During our 36 hour labor, my husband had the movie Wall E playing in the background and came across the character named Eva. As soon as our baby was born, we knew Eva would be a perfect fit. The name is so timeless and simple. Divine inspiration comes in unique ways sometimes!

  8. Eva was my beloved Granny’s middle name, and her mother’s name. I really like the simplicity of it, and the classic feel. It’s short and sweet, like the rest of our family’s names. Eva means “life” and our precious girl represents it well.

  9. Eva is a name that translates across different languages, and is also biblically important (Eve, the first woman).
