Mackenzie Name Meaning

A spunky Scottish pick with cute vibes, Mackenzie has skyrocketed in popularity since the 1990s. Beloved for her youthful feel and energy, parents can’t get enough of this sweet name. The nickname Kenzie gives her an extra dash of adorable while picks like Mack and Mackie lean more unisex.

Like many of today’s top girl names, Mackenzie got her roots as a boy name before migrating into the unisex territory, though today she’s much more common on girls. Meaning “son of Kenneth,” she was originally a surname and is a wonderful name for a child of Kenneth or to honor a loved one with the name.

While she has established roots, she is no doubt modern in sound thanks to her relatively recent popularity. She fits in well with the rise of names like Paisley and Everly, yet also meshes nicely with names similar to her style like Addison and Aubrey. At the same time, Mackenzie walks her own path and can easily dash between fashions without a fuss.

Mackenzie always carries a hefty dose of girlish charm, yet she manages to age well into adulthood. There are plenty of notable grown Mackenzies in the world, including author MacKenzie Bezos, actress Mackenzie Davis, and athlete Mackenzie Dern. These associations have helped give her some maturity despite her trendy vibes, helping her become a solid name choice for the modern girl.
