Reply Austin Sep 30 at 11:01 am I first heard the name in the book/movie “Wonder” and thought it was so cute, especially the nickname, Auggie. Then I met my husband and we met in August, got engaged in August and got married in August…so it’s a special month. When we found out we were having a boy I suggested the name and my husband loved it! Reply Tara Sep 29 at 2:15 pm I had actually picked this name out years ago! I like that it’s derived from St. Augustine, a well respected saint. St. Augustine, pray for us. Reply Lucy Rose Jun 16 at 7:56 am I wanted an “A” name to honor my grandfather. August means “reverence” and has so many amazing nickname options (Gus, Augie) but also works as a distinguished adult name. Reply jayne jackson Jun 6 at 12:52 pm It’s my husband’s middle name and a family name. Reply Sydney Mar 23 at 3:58 pm It is my great great grandfather’s name 🙂 Reply Christina Nov 12 at 2:08 pm Just thought it was a nice name Reply Angel Nov 6 at 12:41 am We were going through a list of potential names, it was one of the last ones we saw, when I said it out loud to my so, we both knew right away that it was the one for us and our new baby. It just clicked, after that, no other name compared. We love that it’s original and not very common, yet it’s still classic and timeless. Reply Katrina Oct 24 at 11:25 pm I loved the sound of it. My husband thought it sounded strong. Reply Farrah Jul 23 at 11:25 pm We chose the name August because it means great and magnificent. It is a strong name derived from Augustus that has an air of confidence and empowerment to it. We call him Auggie as a nickname! Reply Nicole Jun 27 at 1:07 pm I chose August because it is a classic name that is not common. I like think of an intelligent man with a quiet demeanor when I think of ‘August.’ Reply Carla Apr 11 at 3:51 pm My husband and I literally went through thousands of names. We wanted a solid name that paired well with his last name and if it had a likable nickname would be a great bonus. “Augie” is the nickname we are going with, not Gus (which is the only possible dislike of this name that could come up). While there isn’t any nostalgic or personal reason to pick the name, it did turn out that our first ultrasound where we could actually see our baby was in the month of August. But that was pure coincidence. Reply Holly Sep 9 at 12:44 pm I chose the name August because fall is my favorite season in the Midwest. We fully expected our baby to come a few days early, in August. Our child was born on the first of September but we were already sold on the name and all of its potential adorable nicknames (we like Gus!). Reply Jess Aug 17 at 8:55 pm All of our children’s names come from within our family tree and have a German heritage. My eldest son and my paternal great-great grandfather share the same first and last names. He was the first of our family to immigrate from Germany and family legend says he was tough as nails. We wanted names that we unique but not impossible to say or pronounce. We liked that it could also be for a boy or girl. And we could use the nickname Gus if we wanted. Our August is 5 years old now and he’s absolutely an August! Fiery, strong, independent! Reply Lauren Jun 8 at 11:52 am We only loved this name for our boy. It’s strong but not too common. We fell in love with Augie for short too. We get so many comments about his name. Reply Keaudree Young Jun 8 at 10:43 am He was due September 20th but came August 25th. We already wanted an A name and thought that August was perfect for him. Reply Lilli C Brown Jun 5 at 8:35 pm The name August was a name my husband and I spiritually believed was meant for our son. We didn’t know the gender until birth, but when we saw him it just fit so perfectly. He shares his fathers middle name Allan. What we didn’t know was that the man who abandoned my husband’s father was named Augustus so my FIL wasn’t too happy. But, now everyone loves it and him so much they don’t even care. Our son, August, is a very intense and smart baby but seems very picky so far! He is such a joy and SO handsome! Reply Heidi Apr 22 at 4:43 pm We chose the name August because it was my great grandfather’s name, and it comes up often in my family tree, and I wanted to honor my German heritage. We also call him Augie. It is traditionally a man’s name, but recently it’s become more gender neutral so some people have assumed my son was a girl. His middle name is Eugene and I’m really happy we picked this name 🙂 Reply Erica Apr 22 at 2:46 pm It was an unusal name that sounded normal. There are good nicknames: my son will respond to both August and Gus. Reply Share your thoughts on the name August Cancel ReplyYour email address will not be published.
