Austin Name Meaning

A name pulled from Augustin, Austin has been a solid force towards the top of the charts since the 1980s. While his long-standing popularity has made him easily recognizable, he’s cooled enough to feel renewed in a field crowded with Liam and Noah.

He has a lot going for him when it comes to trends, fitting in both the place name bucket since he’s a city in Texas as well as the surname category that houses Jackson, Carter, and Lincoln. In his Austen form, he’s a literary pick, while Auston appears as another variation of the name. He’s part of the vowel name trend we’ve been seeing, where A names for boys are especially taking off.

A nice alternative to more popular names like Aaron and Aiden, Austin will fit in the classroom yet not be seen constantly in most schools. He’s got a healthy bit of boyhood charm about him but still commands respect well into adulthood. Another upside for many is his lack of nicknames, saving him from unwanted shortenings at every turn.

Austin has a likability factor about him, a name with good-guy vibes that can’t be shaken. Like Ryan, he’s a boy-next-door name who is well on his way to becoming a classic.
