Austin Name Meaning

A name pulled from Augustin, Austin has been a solid force towards the top of the charts since the 1980s. While his long-standing popularity has made him easily recognizable, he’s cooled enough to feel renewed in a field crowded with Liam and Noah.

He has a lot going for him when it comes to trends, fitting in both the place name bucket since he’s a city in Texas as well as the surname category that houses Jackson, Carter, and Lincoln. In his Austen form, he’s a literary pick, while Auston appears as another variation of the name. He’s part of the vowel name trend we’ve been seeing, where A names for boys are especially taking off.

A nice alternative to more popular names like Aaron and Aiden, Austin will fit in the classroom yet not be seen constantly in most schools. He’s got a healthy bit of boyhood charm about him but still commands respect well into adulthood. Another upside for many is his lack of nicknames, saving him from unwanted shortenings at every turn.

Austin has a likability factor about him, a name with good-guy vibes that can’t be shaken. Like Ryan, he’s a boy-next-door name who is well on his way to becoming a classic.

  1. The meaning

  2. My boyfriend loves wrestling and us big fan of Stone Cold Steve Austin. He has always liked the name Austin. He told me if we had a boy he would like him to be named Austin and I liked it too. The only thing I dislike is that you can’t shorten it so makes nicknames a little bit hard.

  3. We narrowed down to 5 boy names we both liked and agreed with. Then we chose the ones that went well with the middle names we had. His name came down to Austin Lee Michael or Jameson Lee when we finally had the reveal party. Then we let the older kids pick the one they liked most. They chose Austin since all the kids have 2 middle names.

  4. My husband picked out the name from a football player. It just stuck the whole time and I didn’t even think twice about it. I chose the middle name, Austin Joseph. He came 6 weeks early and spent only 4 short days in the nicu. He is now a happy healthy 7 year old with a little sister ?

  5. After choosing the perfect name for our first boy, we couldn’t agree on a name for our second boy. Mama went through a list of potential names that she liked and DaDa told her that he liked Austin.

We love the name but it’s a pretty common name in the state where we live, RI, it was #35 at some point.

Our baby seems to like music. We often play the song Austin by Blake Shelton for him.

  6. My husband picked this name out this name for our son. I love the name Austin. You don’t hear the name Austin very much at all.

  7. Ive had the name Austin picked out for years and my husband liked it too. I never could figure out a middle name tho and he came up with it lol so we have Austin Riley now 🙂

  8. Had another boy and wanted to stay with the letter A. Plus live the city of Austin, Texas.
