Cora Name Meaning

A sweet pick with vintage roots, little Cora has been slowly creeping up the charts. Her look and sound are similar to Clara and Cara, yet Cora has a rich identity of her own awaiting discovery.

She’s soft and sweet with tons of heart, a gorgeous moniker with endless appeal. Style and Cora go hand in hand and she’s never one to shy away from glitz and glamor. While she has a slight size and delicate demeanor, Cora is filled with wonder and potential, a great name for a leader.

Cora is another versatile pick that ages with ease, though her unisex nickname of Cori gives her an extra dose of youth. She has the maturity needed in a name, as well as the gentle side that doesn’t feel too stuffy. She’s free to run and play, yet won’t seem out of place in a professional environment. If she feels too short, there are always longer picks with her as a nickname like Coralie and Coraline.

She’s a darling name with literary ties, appearing in the 19th century classic The Last of the Mohicans. Movie buffs may also recognize her as the adorable dancing girl in Titanic. Both are fantastic associations and give little Cora an added boost of mainstream strength.

  1. My husband loved the name of the little girl in the movie Titanic, Cora. He loved this movie so much and always wanted to name a little girl, Cora, and write her cards signing them. “You’ll always be my best girl, Cora.”

  2. Family name. Cute and not overly popular

  3. My husband and I selected this name because we enjoyed a show and it was a character’s name. She was a sassy and cute little girl, so we just fell in love with the name before we even became pregnant. It’s not a super common name either, so we liked that. We liked the meaning of the name in Greek “daughter/maiden” and in Latin “little heart.” The name just felt fitting.

  4. Unique for us. Like the meaning / symbolism- close to the heart. Not concerned about nickname.

  5. I absolutely love the name Cora!!! Also it means Persephone.

  6. I love my name it’s so unique and it means weird stuff that I forget but I think it means maiden. Also any of u play Roblox
    ???????

  7. Hey! My name IS Cora! hehehehehe

    • Do u you go to a Thomas’s school?

  8. We wanted our daughters name to have each of our first name initials–C & M….we knew we wanted Margaret as the middle name then we wanted a short first name staring with C (we have a long last name)….we thought Cora was beautiful and fit well 🙂

  9. It makes me think of nature, exploring, strong female Leo personality, short, easy, unique

    • I AM a leo

      lol

  10. I think it’s a beautiful name but also has a family connection.

    • It has a family connection to me too.

  11. I totally do not remember where I heard it first, but it caught my attention and I told my now husband that if we ever have a girl that would be her name. I love that it is old fashioned from the 1950’s. Our last name is also a 1950’s first name and one random day I opened a baby name book to the 1950’s name page and it had two columns with her first and our last name side by side!!! I like that it is not super common, although now I am hearing it more and more.

  12. We loved the alliteration of Cora Capri

  13. Just wanted something short and sweet and not common.

  14. I chose cora because it reminds me of coral. I am originally from Nova Scotia and with that province having an ocean it reminds me of it. Plus my husband is native and water means alot to him and is part of his culture so we named our baby girl Cora. The only thing I don’t like is my sister’s bf name is Corey so when cora was born she reminded me of the name Corey lmao

  15. My husband and I wanted to pick a somewhat old fashioned name so we decided to go though our family trees. We both kept coming back to Cora and it turned out we had a Cora on both sides.

  16. I love this name because it is simple, beautiful, and unique without being something completely unheard of.

  17. We had named our daughter Maryn 2 days after she was born, but after 24 hours with that name we realized it didn’t fit her and changed it Cora. It came to me in a moment of deja vu when I was feeding her and it all felt so familiar except for her name and I’m that moment it get like her name was Cora not Maryn and my husband agreed and we caught it in time before paperwork was officially submitted.
