Natalie Name Meaning

With a meaning as joyous as “Christmas Day,” it’s no wonder that parents love Natalie. A French variant of the Russian Natalia, Natalie has been a constant fixture on the U.S Top 1000 charts.

She’s a sweet spot name, never reaching heights of overuse but always maintaining her popularity like Anna or Claire. She’s never out of fashion or dated, her beauty effortlessly working its magic throughout the years. In today’s world, she’s keeping up with current naming trends thanks to her -ie ending as seen in Mackenzie, Sadie, and Lillie.

Natalie’s Christmas meaning is perfect for a winter baby, less obvious than Holly or Noel but just as lovely. She can also be a subtle religious nod, as Christmas Day is the birthday of Christ in Christianity. She brings to mind the feeling of home and warmth, thanks in part to her meaning.

While she ages well, Natalie is a darling name on a little girl. Dainty and sweet, a little Natalie is happiest with tea and crumpets for two. She’s also quite the little actress, as seen on red carpets in modern Hollywood.

She has her fair share of cute nicknames including Nat, Natty, and Tally. She also offers an alternate spelling in Natalee. Similar names include Natasha and Nathalie.

  7. So lovely!!!!! When my mom was thinking for a name for me she met someone whose name was Natalie and that is how i came to be!!!!!

  8. ?Im digging a ditch for that gold digging bitch?- Bruno Mars

    • How could you say such nasty things about us. I’ve never met a Natalie of any similar spelling, nor pronunciation, that wasn’t a pleasure to know. Now, if she’s continually disrespected, abused, etc., she may have no choice but to defend herself. And you may not like it.

  9. I love my name. You don’t hear it very often. I was named after my grandfather. His name was Natale which is Christmas in Italian. I was born in November. Close enough I guess!

    • Hey, my name is Natalie and I was born in November as well. My mom’s due date was in December; but I was born prematurely.

  10. We have a Natalie. She’s #4 of 4. We had picked Rebecca as a middle name and were searching for the perfect 1st name. We narrowed it down to Natalie or Morgan by the day of my c-section. Anyway, we later discovered she was very head strong, immune to punishments, and full of sass. Also, she always sides with and defends the underdog, is immune to peer pressure, and goes through life always smiling and laughing. When she was around 3and I’d started calling her my emergency room baby because she has no fear. I started doing a poll. She’s now 17. What I have discovered is that Natalie should come with a warning from the delivery nurses. All of the Natalie’s- young to old- that I have talked to are all very head strong and outright stubborn. Proceed at your own risk but also be ready for a great adventure if you choose this beautiful name! And btw “Natalie Rebecca” is a real attention getter when hollered!:) Her soccer coach has even been heard belting it across the field.

  11. We loved the meaning “birth of the Lord.”

  12. my name is natalie and i love it. although when i was little maria called me madalie and oliver called me nalie, i like my name as is!

  13. So my name is natalie I’m a girl and I have never met someone else with this name so it’s a pretty good guess that I might never do if you want to name your kid something unique and fun natalie is a good choice. One thing I’ve found is that there’s always another nickname someone can come up with for this name so be prepared to have a lot!

    • I am a Natalie also but have met SO many other Natalies. Six in my graduating class, two of my co-workers and a roommate all named Natalie. Surprised you have never met another Natalie, I think it’s pretty common!

  14. My bffs name is Natalie

    • My bestie’s name is Natalia Camille. But we either call her Cams, Cami or Camille. But others call her Natalia sometimes.

  15. We were going through names and found out that its fun to say or yell when the child is misbehaving! Thats another reason why we choose the name! And we love her name… her birthday is around Christmas and I know her name means Christmas so it matched!

  16. Natalie is named after my great great grandmother.

    • natalies are always really pretty hot.

  17. I chose the name Natalie because I wanted something that sounded girly and classic, but wasn’t super popular!

  18. I love this app

  19. Grandfathers name was Nathan

  20. You don’t hear the name often, it’s very unique for this day and age.

  21. Natalie is christ’s birthday

  22. We found the name Natalie on a Pinterest list of pretty girl names. We wanted it to be a feminine name, not too popular or old fashioned.

  23. It was an uncommon name (at the time) with a sweet sound.

  24. It was one of three girls names that my husband and I both agreed on before she was born. After she was born, it was clear that she was not a Claire or Julia… she was Natalie. ?

  25. My husband and I both love the name, Natalie – me because it comes from the word Nativity (one of my favorite bible stories) and my husband because his favorite actress was Natalie Wood. Because my family is Italian, I often call to her in an Italian accent, “Natalia“. We love that it’s a classic name, but it’s also not very common. The one thing we don’t like about it is when people shorten it and call her Nat. (She told her preschool teacher years ago, “My name is Natalie, I’m not a gnat.”) If I could go back to before she was born and choose a different name, I wouldn’t – it’s still my favorite and definitely suits her!

    • I have always loved my name. My dad too was a fan of Miss Wood. My mom was from England and only pronounced it na-TAH-lee. Since she has passed, that’s the only way I wish I could hear it. ? There is no D in my name. ?
